Why invest in a tank gauging system?
Inaccurate tank gauges cost money. Companies often lose the value of product volumes that cannot be verified. An accurate tank gauging system gives reliable data during both transfer control/verification and inventory management and loss control is improved. Improved accuracy can produce substantial fuel savings.
Can T4020 work on any shape of Tank?
Yes The T4020 system can be setup for any shape of tank, and if it is on an angle / slope, the option to enter a manual strapping table covers this situation.
Can T4020 be used on Underground tanks?
Yes, for non pressurised tanks, the standard probe can be fitted in underground tanks. The Junction box should never be submerged
Can Multiple Tank Gauges be linked together?
Yes, you can use the same power supply for up to 7 x T4020 gauges. They can all be Daisy chained.
Can we have multiple displays in one enclosure?
Yes, we prefer to keep to single and dual tank gauge units, as this allows for manufacture and stocking to be kept simple and efficient.
What is the accuracy of T4020 Tank Gauges?
Accuracy is advertised to be better than 0.5% of Tank capacity. In reality we see 0.25% of Tank capacity. The smaller the surface area of liquid versus the volume, the more accurate the system is. (Hydrostatic level measurement limitations).
What are the affects of Product Temperature on the T4020 Tank Gauge?
As fuel oils heat up, they expand, and the density changes. This means the Specific Gravity of the product changes as well. As the density and the expansion are similar graphs, these two counteract each other, and so we see a real value at what would be 15 degrees C.
What is the difference between a float type sensor and the Triscan Pressure sensor?
Fuel Oils expand with increase in temperature, and contract with decreasing temperature. A float system has to have compensation to provide a normal (15 deg C) volume reading, otherwise it will read high when hot, and low when cold. The Triscan method of measurement registers losses due to temperature as the fuel is delivered into the tank, not as it cools down some hours later.
What is the Area Certification?
The tank gauge displays are suitable for Zone 2 / Safe area. If the tank zone is considered to be Zone 1, we can provide Eexia sensors and barriers at an extra lead time and cost.
How do you acknowledge the alarms?
There is one Acko button on the front panel. This acknowledges both Master alarm and Bund/Bottom Alarms. Shows as a crossed out symbol.
What is the Tank Capacity?
The Scroll button shows the Tank Capacity, the Ullage, and the name of the Tank. This Auto resets.
What is MODBUS communications?
This is a protocol used by T4020, which is RS485. The gauge can be set as Standard or Modbus. This can be seen when the unit is powered up. (See set-up instructions).
How do the outputs work?
There is a 4-20 mA output which can be set to give a linear 4-20 mA over Zero to Full Tank Litres. There are 4 control outputs, Master M, and 3 others 1,2,3. The master output is used for local siren and Lamps. This Master can be acknowledged from the front panel. The other 3 control outputs can not be acknowledged from the front panel. These trigger points can be set anywhere within the tank level range, and can be Rising or Falling Triggers. These are 20v 50mA switching to 24v 200mA
Can we fit Relays to Outputs?
Yes T4020-R4 is a relay block providing NC-NO-C contacts for each output. (30vdc 1Amp, 240vac 0.5A)
External Low Level Tank connections?
If a tall tank has an external low level fitting / valve, we can supply sensors that will not require top of tank access
Can we use another type of sensor?
Yes, we can use Ultrasonic or Radar, or DP transmitters
What is the fail condition of the Triscan tank sensors?
Whilst this is very unusual, the fail condition is a gradual increase in output from the sensor, so in effect the tank volume begins to rise. This is a safe fail condition, as the alarms and overfill levels will activate earlier rather than later (when we say increase, we mean the 4-20 mA points drift up to around 4.16 to 20.16, which is 1% rise )
Can we measure Leak Detection with this tank gauge system?
Claims by manufacturers to be able to measure leaks are interpretable in different ways. Triscan systems can measure / test for leaks if you are monitoring temperature, and do not use the fuel for between 24 or 48 hours.
What if we can not get wiring between the gauge / tank area and the FIC?
We can supply a radio device at the tank sensor end (mains / 24vdc powered). This transmits the tank sensor level to a receiver board every 2 hours then feeds the 4-20 mA signal into the T4020 display that is near to the FIC. This is 90% effective, but loses high level alarm functionality.
