IS YOUR FUEL EQUIPMENT MID-APPROVED?

The Measuring Instruments Directive is a European directive that ensures equipment manufacturers make measuring instruments of a consistent standard. It also governs the conformity assessment that the instruments must undergo prior to their placing on the market.

Weights and Measures legislation enforces standards on weighing equipment for legal use when goods are purchased, sold or produced. In particular, this legislation covers weighing equipment that determines the final quantity of goods delivered to a customer. No matter the amount of fuel, weight and measures ensures that the actual quantity being sold matches the amount knowingly purchased by the consumer, which is essential when reselling fuel.

Reselling fuel to commercial partners comes under Weights and Measures legislation as fuel is being sold in a specific quantity and charged for. For companies to legally resell fuel under weights and measures legislation, the fuel dispensing equipment must become certified under the Measuring Instruments Directive.

The ‘Weigh’ Forward: Triscan’s Apollo 2

First approved in 2008, Triscan Systems released the original Weights and Measures system, Triscan Elite that set the bar by which all other systems were judged. Continuing from this success, and in order to comply with the forthcoming MID approval, the new Triscan Apollo 2 was launched in 2013.

Triscan’s Apollo 2 ™ Weights & Measures fuel island controller combines state-of-the-art electronics with feature-rich hardware components and a robust, high-speed printer to deliver an accurate, efficient and EU regulated system that has been fully approved for the resale of fuel.

Offering a new dimension in quality for those who resell fuel, the Apollo 2 W&M ™ is certified under the UK Weights and Measures Act 1985, and the European Measuring Instruments Directive (MID). This allows Triscan customers to both store and dispense fuel for their own use as well as legally resell to commercial partners. This flexibility affords transport managers a wide variety of fueling options for their fleet and others.
