Leeds based company – Bedfords Transport has stepped up its approach to reducing overall carbon emissions by installing Triscan System’s latest and most innovative fuel monitoring software. The decision was taken to upgrade its fuel management information provision as part of its commitment to Transport for London’s Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).

Why Join FORS?

FORS provides operators with a multitude of benefits that allow companies to function efficiently within the capital and with customers as demanding as the Daily Mail and OK Magazine for example, Bedfords are able to perform at the top of their game. Established in 1927, Bedfords Transport is one of the UK’s leading transportation providers and has at its core a commitment to achieving quantifiable operational improvements; a key end result of which is a significant reduction in fuel usage and costs.

The benefits

In addition to recently modifying its trailers, Bedford’s upgrade and improvement programme includes a number of related initiatives controlled and monitored through its own dedicated environment committee. A major part of this control is exercised via the FORS on-line benchmarking system which allows the company to externally and anonymously benchmark their operations.

With over 130 employees and a fleet in excess of 70 from 7.5 tonne rigids to 44 tonne articulated vehicles, overcoming the challenges associated with keeping its fleet running as environmentally friendly as possible are well served by the management information tools it uses. This crucially now includes Triscan software.

Developed against the background of supporting government CO2 reduction initiatives, Triscan’s latest software product assists in this process and exports vehicle and fuel transaction information into the FORS on-line benchmarking tool – simply and efficiently.

Triscan’s view

Triscan System’s Marketing Director, Barry McLeod makes the point – “It was a conscious decision for us to incorporate this functionality into our product to assist users and we are extremely pleased to see it being used in practice.  Specifically, Triscan Odyssey exports information including registration number, fuel type, ODO units (miles/ kilometres), depot ID, fuel volume and transaction date into the OLB reporting framework speeding up the process of data transfer, reducing the amount of time taken and ensuring accuracy of data”
